I had the opportunity to photograph Javier Colon, winner of the first season of The Voice in Annapolis at Rams Head. Needless to say, even the best clubs can be a nightmare to shoot in when you don’t have a super fast (and expensive) lens. Luckily, he was seated during the show playing the guitar, so I could use a shutter speed of 1/15 without to much motion blur.
I actually got some good shots with my point and shoot camera, Nikon Coolpix S8100. It’s good in low light situations because you can crank the ISO up to 3200. It’s a little grainy but not bad. Best of all is the video. I can post a few songs to YouTube. I learned from my posting of Rebecca Loebe that it’s best to use artist’s original songs rather than covers. Not that I got into trouble but YouTube lets you know that your song may be infringing on someone’s copyright. I’m finding many artists don’t mind you recording video. It brings them more publicity. Of course, I’m not talking Lady Gaga…
